THRALL — The Thrall Tigers faced tough competition in the Thrall Invitational, taking on some of the top Class 3A teams in Texas. The Tigers held their own, opening the tournament with a 5-0 win over Clifton. Junior Bryce Brinkmeyer led the way, tossing six scoreless innings while also driving in two runs.
Thrall followed with a 2-1 victory over Orangefield, powered by senior utility player Maverick McAllister’s dominant performance on the mound. McAllister threw a complete game, allowing just one run and striking out 10. Senior Ty Matthews sealed the win with a walkoff RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. He finished 1-for-2 at the plate.
The Tigers kept rolling with a 6-0 win over Valley Mills. Sophomore Gus Navejas and senior Ty Bradford each recorded two RBIs, while Jack Gustafson earned the win after throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
Thrall’s tournament run ended on a sour note with an 11-2 loss to Troy, marking the Tigers’ first defeat of the season. Despite using four pitchers, Thrall was unable to contain Troy’s aggressive offense.
The Tigers, now 10-1-1 overall, will return to action against Franklin in a home-and-home series on Tuesday, March 11, and Thursday, March 13, at 7 p.m.
