Lady Ducks wrap up tourney with pair of wins

The Taylor Lady Ducks varsity softball team wrapped up its home tournament with backto- back wins over Bartlett and Florence, respectively, over the weekend.

Taylor’s offense exploded in a dominant 19-1 victory over the Bulldogs. Sophomore Anaih Arroyo led the team at the plate, going 3-for-3 with seven RBIs.

The Ducks took an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning on an RBI double, a groundout and a steal of home.

They followed up with a five-run second inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Freshman Payton Burrow to make it 4-0.

Freshman Nellie Frausto added an RBI triple to extend the lead to 5-0, while Arroyo and Sophomore Enicia Quintanilla contributed RBI singles to cap off the inning.

Taylor sealed the win with 11 runs in two innings. Frausto finished with five RBIs, while Burrow earned the win on the mound. vs. Florence

Taylor’s offense was more contained in this matchup but still did enough to secure a 4-1 win over the Buffaloes. Arroyo and Burrow combined for four innings on the mound, with Burrow picking up the win.

Florence struck first with an RBI double in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Ducks responded in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 1 on an RBI single from Shavasha Christy. In the third inning, sophomore Kambri Oglesby delivered a bases-clearing triple to put Taylor ahead 3-1. The Ducks tacked on an insurance run to close out the win.

The Lady Ducks improved to 3-5 on the season and opened district play against Marble Falls on Tuesday, March 4, before traveling to Salado on Tuesday, March 11, at 7 p.m.
