Game 1

The Taylor Ducks varsity baseball team dropped their first game to Giddings 10-9 before closing out the series with a 3-3 tie on Friday, Feb. 28.

The Ducks got off to a hot start in the bottom of the first, plating five runs after giving up two in the top of the inning to take a 5-2 lead. Taylor added to its lead in the second, making it 6-2.

Giddings fought back with a three-run inning in the third, but the Ducks matched it to go ahead 9-5 heading into the fourth.

The Buffaloes cut into the lead in the fifth, making it 9-6. Taylor could not hold on in the sixth as Giddings scored four runs to secure the victory. Seniors Xavier Juarez and Trey Stromberg led the team with two RBIs each. Sophomore pitcher Mason Sunvision took the loss on the mound.

Game 2

Taylor’s pitching bounced back in Game 2, allowing just three runs on four hits. Freshman pitcher Tayden Talley got the start.

The Ducks plated the first run in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. Both teams were held scoreless the next two innings before Giddings broke the stalemate with a three-run fourth. Taylor responded, tying the game at 3-3 heading into the fifth.

The Ducks had an opportunity to take the lead after the leadoff batter reached on a walk, but three straight outs ended the inning.

Talley, Stromberg and senior Kaddy Maravilla each had an RBI.

Taylor fell to 1-2-1 overall and will take on Gatesville on Tuesday, March 4, before competing in the Franklin Tournament from March 6- 8.
