THRALL — The Thrall Tigerettes varsity softball team defeated the Holland Hornets, 10-4, on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Freshman shortstop Selena Quintanilla and junior first baseman/ catcher Riley Luton each hit a home run, combining for four RBIs.
Thrall fell behind early, allowing an RBI double in the top of the first, but quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning. Luton’s two-run homer gave the Tigerettes a 2-1 lead, and Quintanilla extended the advantage with a solo shot in the third.
Senior pitcher Miles Pokorny kept Holland’s offense in check, holding the Hornets scoreless until the fifth inning. Meanwhile, Thrall added to its lead, making it 4-1 in the fourth after scoring on a wild pitch. Sophomore infielder Adelynn Bishop followed with an RBI triple, and another run crossed the plate on a groundout.
Holland cut the deficit to 6-3 in the fifth after scoring twice on a walk and a single, but Thrall answered with another run on a wild pitch. The Hornets made it 7-4 with an RBI single in the sixth, but the Tigerettes put the game out of reach by scoring three more runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Thrall improved to 5-5 on the season and will compete in the Taylor Tournament from Feb. 27 to March 1.
