Hippos defeat Knights 4-2

HUTTO — Junior utility player Noah Castillo’s two-RBI double in the bottom of the second inning proved to be the difference in a 4-2 victory over Harker Heights. Castillo went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Hippos fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first after the Knights scored on an RBI single. Hutto answered in the bottom of the frame to take a 2-1 lead.

Senior outfielder Lou Torres hit an RBI single and senior utility player Anthony Garcia brought in a run on a fielder’s choice. Torres finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Hutto added to the lead in the second with Castillo’s two-RBI double to make it 4-1.

Senior pitcher Jackson Reed earned the win, pitching five innings and holding the Knights scoreless for four straight frames.

Harker Heights scored in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 4-2, but senior pitcher Kolten Morton recorded two strikeouts, and junior Aiden Biehle secured the win by catching a lineout.

Hutto (1-2) dropped its first two games of the season, falling 10-0 to Westlake and 6-2 to Lehman.

The Hippos will return to action Feb.

27-28 at the Cabaniss Soccer Complex in Corpus Christi, where they will face Falfurrias, London, SA East Central and Corpus Christi King.
