The Taylor Ducks varsity soccer teams split their matchups against Giddings on Monday, Feb. 24, with the boys earning a hard-fought victory and the girls falling in a penalty shootout.
Boys
Taylor fell behind early as Giddings took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but the Ducks responded with two unanswered goals from Paco Sanchez and Adan Torres to secure a 2-1 win. Torres and Rivaldo Granadas each recorded an assist.
The Ducks improved to 7-4 in district play as they continue their push for a postseason spot. They faced Rockdale on Feb. 25 and will host Caldwell at 5:30 p.m. on March 4.
Girls
The Lady Ducks lost to Giddings in a penalty shootout after regulation ended in a 1-1 tie.
Freshman Sam Shroeder scored Taylor’s lone goal, assisted by junior Avery Paulson.
The loss marked just the second district defeat for Taylor, dropping the Lady Ducks to 9-2 overall. They looked to bounce back against Rockdale on Feb. 25 before hosting Caldwell at 7:30 p.m. on March 4.
