EDDY — The Granger Lady Lions softball team picked up its first win of the season with a dominant 23-1 run-rule victory over Bruceville-Eddy on Monday, Feb. 17. Senior Marissa Hall and freshman Skyla Thorson each hit their first home run of the year.
Granger’s offense exploded early, scoring 11 runs in both the first and second innings to take a commanding 22-1 lead heading into the third. Thorson played a key role in the offensive surge, going 4-for-5 with a double, two triples, and a home run while driving in five runs.
Junior Arianna Herrara got the start in the circle, allowing just one run over five innings. She struck out 11 batters and walked two. The Lady Lions added one more run in the fifth to cap the victory.
Herrara also contributed at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Junior Izzy Tavernier, senior Sophia Bernal, freshmen Rylinn Hamby, Abigail Couch and Brooklyn Gaswint each drove in two runs.
Granger (1-1) will look to build on the win when it travels to Rockdale on Tuesday, Feb. 25, for a 5 p.m. game.
