Ducks soccer dominates Smithville

The Taylor Ducks varsity soccer teams dominated the Smithville Tigers, with both the boys and girls securing victories and outscoring Smithville 17-0 on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Boys

The Ducks have struggled to score at times this season, but they had no trouble finding the back of the net in a 12-0 win over Smithville. The victory marked Taylor’s highest-scoring game of the season and its most goals in a match since 2023.

Adan Torres led the team with three goals, while Cooper Mendoza, Adrian Molina, Diego Alanis, Aaron Grimaldo, Adrik Campos, Eddy Robles, Edgar Villarruel, Roman Capetillo and Angel Rodriguez each added one. The Ducks improved to 6-4 in district play as they continue their push for the postseason. Taylor will face Giddings on Feb. 21 before traveling to Rockdale on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 5:30 p.m.

Girls

The Lady Ducks were equally impressive offensively, defeating Smithville 5-0. The win marked their third consecutive victory, improving their district record to 9-1, just one game behind Salado.

Sophomore Analisa Arredondo led the team with three goals, while freshman Samantha Schroeder added two. Junior Avery Paulson, sophomore Kaitlyn Crane, and Alexandra Rebollar-Cruz each recorded an assist.

Taylor will resume play against Giddings on Feb. 21 before traveling to Rockdale on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m.
