THRALL — The Thrall Tigers varsity baseball team opened its season with a 5-4 home victory over Salado on Monday, Feb. 17, overcoming a late deficit with a four-run sixth inning.
The Eagles, who made a deep postseason run last year, proved to be a tough opponent in a game dominated by pitching early on. Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings before Thrall broke the deadlock with a run in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead.
Salado responded in the fifth, pushing across two runs to go ahead 2-1. The Eagles extended their lead in the top of the sixth, adding two more runs to make it 4-1.
The Tigers’ offense came alive in the bottom of the sixth, stringing together timely hits to plate four runs and reclaim the lead at 5-4. Thrall’s defense and pitching held strong in the top of the seventh, closing out the game to secure the season-opening win.
Thrall will now hit the road for the Salado tournament, scheduled for Feb. 20-22.
