HARKER HEIGHTS — The Taylor Ducks softball team opened its 2025 season with a tough 23-7 loss to Harker Heights on Tuesday, Feb. 11. A ninerun second inning by the Knights proved to be the difference, putting the game out of reach early.
Despite the lopsided final score, the Ducks showed fight in the early innings. Taylor came out strong, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. However, Harker Heights responded immediately, plating five runs in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead 5-3.
The Knights extended their lead in the second, erupting for nine unanswered runs to make it 14-3. Taylor attempted to battle back in the third, scoring four runs to trim the deficit to 14-7. But any momentum was short-lived, as Harker Heights delivered another offensive surge, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the inning to push its lead to 21-7. The Knights added two more runs to close out the game.
Although the season opener did not go in their favor, the Ducks will look to regroup and bounce back as they compete in the Navarro Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 15.
Taylor will aim to correct its mistakes and gain momentum early in the season.
