The Thrall Tigerettes softball team went 0-2 on Thursday, Feb. 13, falling to Vista Ridge and Georgetown on day one of the NFCA Leadoff Classic in College Station. With the losses, Thrall dropped to 1-2 overall this season.
Vista Ridge 10, Thrall 2
Thrall fell 10-2 to Vista Ridge after a hard-fought matchup slipped away in the fifth inning.
The Tigerettes struck first, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Vista Ridge answered with runs in the bottom of the first and second to tie the game at 2-2. From there, both offenses stalled in a pitching duel that lasted two scoreless innings.
Junior pitcher Miley Pokorny kept the Rangers in check until the fifth, when Vista Ridge capitalized on key opportunities to break the game open with an eight-run inning.
Junior Riley Luton and freshman Piper Hernandez drove in Thrall’s only runs.
Georgetown 6, Thrall 0
Thrall’s offensive struggles continued in a 6-0 loss to Georgetown, extending its scoreless streak to 10 innings.
The Eagles grabbed early momentum, scoring runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead.
Georgetown then pulled away with a three-run third inning, making it 5- 0.
The Tigerettes’ pitching staff settled in, allowing just one more run over the final three innings, but the offense couldn’t gain traction as Thrall suffered its second loss of the day.
Thrall will continue tournament play Feb. 13-15.
