LITTLE RIVER-ACADEMY — The Taylor Ducks varsity girls basketball team saw its season end Monday night in a lopsided 72-30 loss to La Vega in the bidistrict round of the playoffs. The Ducks finished the year with a 12-20 overall record and a 4-6 mark in district play.

Taylor faced an uphill battle from the opening tip, struggling to contain La Vega’s size advantage in the paint. Senior forward Angela Carroll led the Pirates with 16 points.

The Ducks fell into an early hole, trailing 24-2 at the end of the first quarter as the Pirates dominated inside.

Offensively, Taylor had trouble generating quality looks against La Vega’s aggressive defense, which forced 18 turnovers and disrupted passing lanes. The Ducks’ scoring woes continued in the second quarter, managing just six points while the Pirates extended their lead to 42-8 at halftime.

Despite the large deficit, Taylor continued to battle in the second half, finding more offensive success and showing resilience. The Ducks scored 22 points combined in the third and fourth quarters, nearly tripling their first-half total.

Senior guard Sophia Fisher led Taylor in her final game with the program, while sophomore forward Tianna Candee also made key contributions. Fisher, one of the team’s veteran leaders, wrapped up her high school career as a key part of the Ducks’ backcourt as she will continue her basketball career at the University of North Texas at Dallas.

Candee, a promising underclassman, gained valuable playoff experience as Taylor looks ahead to next season.
