GIDDINGS — The Granger Lady Lions’ historic season came to an end Monday, Feb. 10, with a 52-42 loss to Weimar in the bi-district round of the Class 2A state playoffs. Despite the defeat, Granger finished the year undefeated in district play and secured a district championship.
In a tightly contested matchup, the Lady Lions battled from start to finish. The first half was a defensive struggle, with both teams trading baskets.
Granger entered halftime trailing by a point, 22-21. Junior forward Victoria Castillo led the team offensively, finishing with a game-high 12 points.
Weimar gained momentum in the second half, outscoring Granger 14-8 in the third quarter to take a 36-29 lead into the final period.
The Lady Lions fought to close the gap, but the Wildcats’ offense proved too strong down the stretch. A 17-12 fourthquarter run sealed the victory for Weimar, ending Granger’s playoff run. Senior guard Marrissa Hall contributed eight points in the effort, while senior guard Sofia Bernal and junior Abigail Crouch played key roles throughout the game.
Granger closed out its season with a 25-8 overall record, highlighted by dominant district play and a championship run. Led by Castillo, Hall, Bernal and Crouch, the Lady Lions established themselves as one of the top teams in the area.
