Paxton investigating Hutto, Richardson ISDs

Paxton investigating Hutto, Richardson ISDs

Hutto ISD is one of two districts being investigated by Attorney General Ken Paxton regarding the status of transgender student-athletes.

Paxton’s assistant attorney general, Steven Ogle, sent out a letter to Hutto ISD superintendent Dr. Jeni Neatherlin regarding the issue. In the letter, there are claims that former Hutto ISD DEI director Keyawna Glaze was filmed advising a parent as to how they could “evade state law.”

“Specifically, Ms. Glaze advised the parent that there were ‘workarounds’ that would allow a male student to change the sex on his birth certificate in another state to participate in interscholastic sports for young women in Texas,” the letter states. “The advice given by Ms. Glaze seeks to directly circumvent this law and abdicate the district’s duty to protect interscholastic athletic opportunities for girls. Further, Governor (Greg) Abbott has consistently reiterated that Texas only recognizes two sexes and that all state policy should reflect this fact, including TEA and UIL policies regarding interscholastic sports.”

The letter also points out to Neatherlin that House Bill 25, passed by the 87th state legislature, “prohibits a student from competing in interscholastic athletic competitions designated for the opposite biological sex.” Glaze, who was hired to oversee Hutto’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion department, recently resigned.

In addition to Hutto ISD, Paxton also is investigating Richardson ISD on a similar matter. Richardson ISD is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
