GRANGER — The Granger Lady Lions varsity basketball team secured the district championship with a commanding 38-21 victory over the Thorndale Bulldogs, capping off a perfect 12-0 run in district play.
As they have all season, the Lady Lions set the tone with relentless defense, overwhelming Thorndale from the opening tip. Granger jumped out to an 18-5 lead in the second quarter and never looked back. Junior guard Abigail Crouch, senior guard Marissa Hall, and junior guard Alexi Montagnino anchored the defensive effort, helping stifle the Bulldogs’ offense.
The second half brought more of the same, as the Lions extended their lead to 29-12 entering the fourth quarter. Granger’s scrappy defense tallied 17 steals and held Thorndale to just 12% shooting from the field.
With the district title in hand, the Lions will host Grace Academy on Friday, Feb. 7, at 6 p.m. before shifting their focus to the postseason. Their playoff opponent, date, and time are yet to be determined.
