HUTTO — A multigoal performance from senior midfielder and forward Edmond Elone at Hutto Memorial Stadium on Friday, Jan. 31, propelled the Hutto Hippos to their first win of the 2025 season, a 4-1 victory over Stony Point.
Hutto head coach Joshua Johnson said the season has provided adversity as the Hippos have been without a cemented lineup.
“Getting our starters back in tonight, like I said, we had 85, 90% instead of 50%,” Johnson said. “It makes a difference now. So, we played a lot different, obviously.”
Hutto now holds a 1-4-3 record and sits second to last, ahead of Cedar Ridge, in the district standings.
“We didn’t exactly get the results we wanted to on what might’ve otherwise seemed to be some easier opponents,” Johnson said. “But it turns out in this district, we all kind of knew going in, there are no easy nights out.”
Junior forward Ethan Paone scored in the 11th minute to put the Hippos up 1-0. After Elone’s two goals, sophomore striker Sharoz Pedro found the net following a deflection off Stony Point’s goalkeeper.
Though the Tigers spoiled his clean sheet, goalkeeper Matias Aguilar made multiple one-on-one saves to keep the Hippos in control.
Hutto visits Vandegrift on Tuesday, Feb. 4, before hosting Vista Ridge on Friday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m.
