Residents wishing to know more about the duties of the Williamson County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office can fill out an application for the third class of the Constable Citizen Academy.
Applications are due Feb. 21 and are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested can visit the county website for the application and more information at wilcotx.gov/1315/ Constable- Citizen-Academy.
The 36-hour course held over 12 weeks educates residents about all aspects of the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, which is under the leadership of Paul L. Leal.
Session topics include the history of the constable’s office, civil process, writ execution, the Texas Penal Code, environmental law enforcement, use of force, officer safety, self-aid/buddy aid, handcuffing techniques, traffic stops, low-light encounters, response to active shooter, county jail and dispatch tour and a question-andanswer session with the justice of the peace and county attorney.
Classes will be Thursday from March 6 through May 8 from 6-9 p.m. in the Precinct 4 training room.
Attendance is free, but participants will be asked to purchase an academy polo shirt for about $30.
Seating is limited to the first 25 approved applications.
Applicants must be at least 21, be a resident of Precinct 4 and complete a background check.
Applicants can verify they reside in Precinct 4 online at gis. wilco.org/search/addressSearch. html.
Graduates of the academy play a vital role in the community by improving communication between residents and law enforcement as well as providing local input and support across the county, officials said.
