BURNET — The Taylor Ducks girls varsity basketball team lost 45-38 to the Burnet Bulldogs on Jan. 28. Senior guard Sophia Fisher’s 19 points were not enough as the Ducks fell to 11-18 overall and 3-5 in district play.

Taylor grabbed an early 5-3 lead after a 3-pointer from senior guard Molli Kennick, who finished with 9 points. The Ducks trailed 11-7 late in the first quarter, but a 3-pointer from junior guard Kionayh Rivers cut the lead to 11-10.

Rivers finished with 6 points.

Taylor entered the second quarter down 13-10. Both offenses slowed in the period, and the Ducks faced a slight 20-16 deficit heading into halftime. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 28-20 in the third quarter, but Kennick answered with another three to make it 28-23. The Ducks continued to battle in the final period, trailing 34-30, but Burnet ultimately pulled away going on an 8-2 run to secure the win.

Taylor is now ranked fourth in the district standings, with Lampasas right behind, both at 3-5.

The Ducks will close out the season against Marble Falls on Friday, Jan. 31, before traveling to Salado on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 6:30 p.m.
