Let the races begin

Filings that opened Jan. 15 have begun rolling in for the May 3 general elections in Taylor and Hutto.

Residents have until 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, to submit candidate applications for the open city council and school board seats.

According to the city of Taylor website, Greg Redden has filed for the City Council open District 1 seat, currently held by Gerald Anderson, and three candidates are vying for the District 4 spot, currently held by Robert Garcia.

They are Heather Pacharzina Long, Gordon Pettey and Patrick V. Hackeling.

Incumbent Hutto Mayor Mike Snyder and Place 6 Councilwoman Amberley Kolar are running for reelection as Cory Denena aims to fill Randal Clark’s Place 3 seat on the Hutto City Council, according to the city website.

The Hutto Independent School District also has incumbents seeking another term on the board, according to the Hutto ISD website — current board Vice President Shannon Jacobs and Terrence Owens.

The school district has three seats open, with board President Billie Logiudice’s term also expiring.

Hutto ISD’s board members represent the entire district, rather than having singlemember positions, according to the school district website.

Just down U.S. 79, Marco Ortiz, currently the board president and holding Place 4, has filed for reelection on the Taylor Independent School District board. Other open seats include Places 3 and 5, currently held by Board Assistant Secretary Cheryl Carter and Joseph Meller, respectively.

Terms are for three years.
