GRANGER — The Granger Lions boys basketball team clinched a playoff spot with a commanding 56-28 victory over the Rosebud-Lott Cougars on Friday, Jan. 24. Junior guard Kye Welles led the way, scoring a game-high of 18 points.
Granger set the tone early, building a 16-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Lions extended their advantage with an 18-7 run in the second quarter, taking a comfortable 34-13 lead into halftime.
The Lions' defense was relentless in the third quarter, holding the Cougars to just two points while adding 15 of their own to stretch the lead to 49-15. Granger eased up in the fourth, allowing 13 points while scoring seven, but the game was well in hand.
The Lions improved to 15-8 overall and 7-1 in district play.
Junior guard Caleb Tucker and senior guard Isaac Campo also had standout performances, with Tucker contributing 13 points and Campo adding 11.
Granger is now one game behind Thorndale in the district standings and will continue to battle for postseason positioning. The Lions return to action against McDade on Tuesday, Jan. 28, before a pivotal showdown with Thorndale on Friday, Jan.
31. That game could carry significant district championship implications.
