The Taylor Ducks girls basketball team secured a commanding 50-17 victory over the Lampasas Badgers on Wednesday, Jan. 23. The Ducks, who sat fifth in the district standings before the win, moved into postseason contention at third place.

Taylor set the tone early, taking an 11-2 lead into the second quarter. Senior guard Sophia Fisher extended the advantage to double digits at 13-2 with a fast-break layup, and senior guard Molli Kennick added to the momentum with a corner three-pointer to make it 18-2.

Freshman guard Samantha Schroader knocked down backto- back three-pointers in the second quarter, pushing the lead to 31-3 by halftime. Senior forward Kionayh Rivers drained a 3-pointer in the third quarter as the Ducks stretched their advantage to 36-5. Taylor outscored Lampasas 14-12 in the final period to cap off the dominant performance.

The Ducks shot 30% from the field while holding the Badgers to just 12% shooting in a stifling defensive effort.

Taylor will return to action on Friday, Jan. 24, hosting Jarrell, before traveling to Burnet for a key district matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 6:15 p.m.
