Senior guard Jacob Bell led the Hutto Hippos to a commanding 89-34 victory over the Manor Mustangs on Friday, Jan. 17. Bell paced the Hippos with 25 points, shooting 9-of-15 from the field.

The win marked Hutto’s fourth consecutive victory, during which the team has outscored opponents by an average margin of nearly 30 points. The Hippos came out firing offensively, scoring 25 points in the first quarter to take a 25-16 lead.

Hutto pulled further ahead in the second quarter, outscoring Manor 24-8 to enter halftime with a 49-24 advantage. The Hippos’ defense dominated the second half, holding the Mustangs to just 10 points while adding 40 of their own to secure the blowout win.

Junior forward Ronald Willis and senior guard Landyn Rosow each contributed 15 points, while senior guard Cylin Tate added 10 points. The Hippos shot 45% from the field and dominated the glass, pulling down 46 rebounds. Willis led the team with 12 boards.

The win keeps Hutto’s postseason hopes alive as the Hippos, now 5-5 in district play, sit in fifth place, one spot behind Vandegrift.

Hutto will look to extend its win streak when it travels to face Round Rock Westwood on Friday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. The Warriors are currently second in the district standings with a 9-1 record.

The last meeting between the two teams saw Westwood claim a 66-41 victory earlier this season. This rematch could feature plenty of offense, as Hutto has averaged more than 70 points per game during its win streak, while Westwood has scored an average of 65 points per game this season.
