HUTTO — Hutto Independent School District recently announced the promotion of head football Coach Will Compton to district athletic coordinator. The move comes as current athletic coordinator Brad LaPlante prepares to transition to his new role as the athletic coordinator for Montgomery ISD.
With the promotion, the Hippos are launching their search for a new head football coach. Compton, who will oversee the hiring process, said the search is in its early stages as the district is still receiving resumes.
To find the right candidate, Compton plans to assemble a committee tasked with identifying the best possible hire. He said a new coach is expected to be announced “sometime next month.” Despite his offensive background, Compton stressed the importance of focusing on fit rather than coaching philosophy.
“You want to find the absolute best fit for your program, so it’s not about being an offensive or defensive guy — it’s about finding the best fit for Hutto ISD,” Compton said. “We’re looking for a dynamic coach who excels at building relationships with studentathletes, is a proven leader, and knows how to win.”
Hutto ISD is not alone as several area schools, including district rival Round Rock Westwood, are also seeking new leadership. Despite the competition, Compton remains confident in the appeal of the Hippos’ program.
“Where else can you go to be a Hippo?” Compton joked. “We have great leadership from top to bottom, and being part of this team means you’ll be surrounded by incredible people who will help you grow as a coach and as a leader.”
The Hippos' 20252026 roster is set to return some top starters, including junior quarterback Kaden Stefek, junior running back Keilan Chavies and sophomore wide receiver Jaiden Fields.
