IN OTHER COUNCIL NEWS:

• Approval of an ordinance allowing public fishing on all ponds or lakes on city property, an issued that surfaced after anglers began fishing in the water feature at the Hutto Co-op District. Now, anyone wanting to cast a line must follow state laws including obtaining a fishing license and practicing “catch and release.”

• Denied a specific-use permit for a car wash at 2725 Limmer Loop.

• Adopted an ordinance establishing juvenile-diversion operations and established a fee. Lucas Wilson, presiding judge for Hutto Municipal Court, told council state lawmakers approved allowing courts to charge parents of certain juvenile offenders a $50 fee if the youth agrees to enter a juvenile-diversion program. The programs are for minors who are not already in the justice system, to be able to avoid harsher penalties. It applies to certain Class C misdemeanor offenses such as possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication.
