The Taylor Ducks varsity girls’ basketball team lost 38-34 to the Lampasas Badgers on Friday, Jan. 3. The Ducks held a 24-16 lead in the third quarter but, ultimately, could not hold on for the victory in their district opener.

Taylor built an 8-1 lead early in the game as its defense kept the Badgers’ offense in check. Lampasas was able to stay in the game by making open three-pointers in the first half, keeping the score within striking distance. The Ducks dominated on the boards outrebounding the Badgers 44-26.

Taylor maintained their advantage until late in the third quarter when the Badgers outscored them 13-2 to take a 29-27 lead.

Taylor regained the lead in the fourth quarter, going up 34-32, but a late 6-0 run by Lampasas proved to be the difference. The Ducks offense struggled late in the game shooting just 25% from the field compared to the Badgers 31%.

The Ducks fell to 8-14 overall and 0-1 in district play, suffering their second consecutive loss. Taylor will look to gain momentum when they face Jarrell on Tuesday, Jan.
