The Hutto Hippos boys varsity basketball team fell 91-62 to the Stony Point Tigers on Tuesday, Dec. 31. The Hippos could not overcome a slow start to the third quarter, during which they were outscored 33-9. Hutto went toe-to-toe with the Tigers in the first half, taking a narrow 15-14 lead into the second quarter. However, Stony Point gained the advantage and led 38-36 at halftime. Offensively, Hutto ran out of gas in the third quarter, struggling to make quality shots and committing too many turnovers — 28 in total.

The Tigers took full advantage, outscoring the Hippos by 24 points in the third. Hutto managed to find some rhythm in the fourth quarter but ultimately fell short.

Junior forward Ronald Willis led the team with 16 points, while senior guard Cylin Tate and junior guard Malachi Hillby each contributed 15 points. The team shot 43% from the field.

Hutto now falls to 8-13 overall and 1 - 4 in district play as it continues to search for momentum. The road won’t get any easier as the Hippos face Vandegrift on Jan.

3 before hosting Vista Ridge on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m.
