Fred Kerley, an Olympic sprinter and former Taylorite who earned a silver medal for the United States at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and a bronze at the 2024 Paris Games, is facing a felony charge and two misdemeanors following an altercation with police on Thursday, Jan. 2, in Miami-Dade County, where he resides.
According to an arrest report from the Miami Beach Police Department, as reported by WPLG, the incident began when Kerley raised concerns about his vehicle, which had been blocked off due to an unrelated police operation.
Officers reportedly instructed him to “go around” the area, but they allege he became confrontational, pushing an officer and initiating a physical altercation involving multiple police.
During the struggle, police stated that an officer “delivered multiple hammer fists” to Kerley’s head and struck him “multiple times in the rib cage” before using a stun gun to subdue him, according to the arrest report.
The 29-year-old was handcuffed. Body-camera footage released by the MBPD shows the full confrontation between Kerley and the officers.
Kerley’s 32-year-old girlfriend, Cleo Jamila Rahman, was also arrested at the scene and charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.
Kerley appeared in Miami-Dade bond court Friday afternoon, where he faced charges of battery on a police officer, resisting an officer without violence and disorderly conduct, according to WPLG
