The Granger Lions girls’ basketball team finished 2-2 at the Mumford Tournament held Dec. 27-28. With the results, the Lions now hold a 16-6 overall record, including a 3-0 mark in district play.
Granger opened the tournament with a hard-fought 42-41 victory over the Elgin Wildcats. The Lions jumped out to an early 15-3 lead in the first quarter but allowed Elgin to rally, ultimately holding on for the narrow win. The team then dropped its next two games, falling to St. Joseph Catholic 53-48 and Brazos Christian 58-46.
The Lions closed out the tournament on a high note, defeating Giddings 41-40 in a thrilling finale.
Granger outscored the Buffaloes 11-8 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
The Lions have had a strong start to the season and aim to stay undefeated in district play. They will face Rosebud-Lott on Dec. 31 before hosting McDade on Friday, Jan. 3, at 6 p.m.
