The Taylor Ducks girls’ varsity basketball team defeated the La Grange Leopards 50-37 on Friday, Dec. 20. This marks the fourth consecutive victory for the Ducks, improving to 8-12 overall.
Junior point guard Aubriana Alderete hit an early three-pointer to give Taylor a 5-3 lead.
The Ducks continued to build on their advantage after a couple of baskets, and a fast-break layup from sophomore forward Tianna Candee made it 11-5.
Defensively, the Ducks were scrappy, accounting for multiple steals that led to fastbreak points. The game tightened in the third quarter as the Leopards were able to cut into the lead, 22-21. The Ducks quickly extended the lead to 27-21 soon after with a quick layup and three-pointer from Alderete. Senior Molli Kennick hit a three in the fourth quarter to secure a double-digit victory.
Top performers for Taylor were Alderete and senior forward Kionayh Rivers. The Ducks will look to extend their win streak even further by taking on Franklin on Dec.
27 before traveling to Lampasas on Jan. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
