Taylor assistant city manager announces retirement

Taylor Assistant City Manager Tom Yantis announced his retirement from city government effective at the end of the year, after 25 years of service, according to a news release.

Yantis’ last day serving as assistant city manager will be Dec. 20, and Carly Kehoe Pearson has been chosen to take over the position.

“Tom has played a critical role in the City, ensuring that we are prepared for the growth coming, following the announcement of Samsung’s arrival and building a framework for future development to ensure that the City grows thoughtfully,” City Manager Brian LaBorde said in the release. “As we reflect on his decades of public service, we are honored to have been a part and beneficiary of his service.”

While serving the city of Taylor, Yantis completed many long-range projects, including a new land development code, a new comprehensive plan and other master-planning projects to prepare the city for growth. Yantis was also instrumental in negotiations with Samsung Austin Semiconductor and led the team that oversaw the construction of the plant, according to the release.

Additionally, Yantis received the Assistant City Manager of the Year Award from the Texas City Management Association in 2024.
