The Hutto Hippos boys varsity basketball team came up short in a 66-41 loss to Round Rock Westwood on Friday, Dec. 13. The Hippos fell to 7-11 overall and 1-2 in district play, while the Warriors improved to 18-0 and 4-0 in the district.
Hutto fought hard throughout the game, which was closer than the final score indicated, but Westwood’s offense proved to be too much. The Hippos struggled with rebounding, finishing with just 18 total boards, and had trouble getting to the freethrow line, making 2 of 5 attempts.
Hutto shot 46% from the field, with junior guard Brian Caldwell leading the team with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Senior guard Cylin Tate added 9 points, while junior forward Ronald Willis and senior guard Jacob Bell each contributed 8.
The road ahead won’t get any easier for the Hippos. They travel to Round Rock on Friday, Dec. 20, for a 7 p.m. matchup before hosting Pflugerville on Friday, Dec. 27, at 11:30 a.m.
