Senior forward Taylor Hicks’ seven 3-pointers powered the Hutto Hippos to a 44-38 victory over Round Rock Westwood on Friday, Dec. 13. Hutto improved to 9-9 overall and 2-3 in district play.
The Hippos fell into an 18-11 hole in the first quarter, but two 3-pointers from Hicks cut the deficit to 18-17. Hicks then tied the game at 20-20 with her third shot from behind the arc.
Hutto took a 25-24 lead soon after as Hicks delivered another 3-pointer and made a key defensive play with a pivotal block that kept the Hippos ahead 35-34 late in the game.
The Warriors briefly regained the lead at 37-35, but a fast-break layup from junior power forward Victoria Escobedo tied the game at 37 with just minutes remaining.
