Event a smashing success

The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter hosted its annual Pie Challenge on Tuesday, Dec. 3, an event aimed at encouraging dog adoptions. For every 10 dogs adopted, one pie was smashed in the face of shelter director Misty Valenta.

This year, the shelter expanded the challenge to include dogs who left through its Doggy Day Out program, foster care, partner organization pulls or were reunited with their families. The result was 30 pies — a significant increase from last year’s 17 pies — as the shelter reported 62 adoptions, 30 reunions, 16 partner pulls, 84 fosters and 37 Doggy Day Out participants.

“This challenge is about rallying our community to help dogs find the love, comfort and joy they deserve,” Valenta said. “It’s a fun way to make a serious impact, and I couldn’t wait to see how many pies came my way this year!”

Even though the event is over, the shelter is still in the pie spirit, reducing adoption fees to $3.14. For more information about the shelter, its programs or events, visit wilcotx.gov/pets.
