The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization approved $250 million in Texas Department of Transportation funding for the CAMPO Transportation Improvement Plan at a Transportation Policy Board meeting on Dec. 9 that will widen state Highway 130 from two lanes to three lanes in each direction in Williamson County, according to a news release.
The funding will allow approximately 15 miles of widening on state Highway 130, from Gattis School Road in Round Rock north past Georgetown to Interstate 35, said Cynthia Long, Williamson County Precint 2 Commissioner and chair of the CAMPO Transportation Policy Board, in the release.
Williamson County Precinct 4 Commissioner Russ Boles said construction will begin in 2027.
“I’ve emphasized that these longsought improvements will enhance both mobility and safety to our community,” Boles said in the release. “By reducing travel times, we are ensuring that Williamson County residents will spend more time with their families and less time stuck in traffic.”
The project “is a significant step forward in making our county a better place to live and work,” Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell said in the release.
