The Hutto Hippos boys’ varsity basketball team will host the Round Rock Westwood Warriors on Friday, Dec. 13. The Hippos are coming off a 2-3 stint in the Pflugerville Tournament, while the Warriors defeated Vista Ridge 63-36.
Hutto will face a tough challenge as Westwood is currently undefeated this season 16-0 and ranked #37 in Texas, according to MaxPreps. The Warrior’s offense has been dominant this season averaging 66.8 points. Defensively, the Hippos have struggled at times this year but have shown improvement throughout the season giving up 48.1 points per game.
Offensively, the Hippos will need to improve on its shooting going 39% from the field averaging 51 points per game. Hutto is led by senior guards Cylin Tate and Jacob Bell as Tate averages 14.7 points, while Bell has accounted for 11.8. Junior forward Ronald Willis has also been impactful leading the team in rebounds with 6.2 per game.
The Hippos will hope to pull off the upset as it looks to turn the season around currently sitting at 7-10 overall and 1-1 in district play.
The game is set to tip off at 7 p.m.
