Danile Seguin is the communications director for the city of Taylor.
Q: What is your superpower?
A: Calm.
Q: If you could give your 10-year-old self advice, what would it be?
A: You don’t have to grow up so fast or be the best at everything.
Make close friends, and be a good friend. The world is not so black and white.
Q: Why do you do what you do as (communications director for the city of Taylor)?
A: From a young age, I wanted my life to be meaningful. I didn’t want to have a job just for the money and to only live life and enjoy life on the weekends.
I wanted to be a light in my community, to help people. In college, I realized that people were so focused on national politics, sports, international conflicts and celebrities that they missed what was really important, family and community. It is your local government that has the greatest effect on your life and community, and it is the place where you can have the greatest voice.
My passion is to give MY community that voice.
To give them access to the information that matters to them, inspire them to get involved and to show them that their community will not thrive because of their government, but because of the community coming together and partnering alongside their government to do amazing things. My mission is to build trust, inspire collaboration and foster community.
Q: What makes you good at your job?
A: Humility and listening. I am called to service. That service can only be done effectively if I have an active ear, a quiet tongue and do not let an ego get in the way of doing what is right. I am also surrounded by people with amazing skills and experiences that I can learn from, if only I close my mouth, open my ears and listen with a genuine curiosity and desire to learn, both from a city manager and a custodian.
Q: Who or what is your biggest inspiration?
A: This is going to sound so cliche but is genuine ... Humanity.
I am inspired by the incredible accomplishments that human ingenuity and collaboration has achieved. I am also inspired by individuals and stories. The human condition is fragile yet strong, peaceful yet warring, truthful yet deceptive, beautiful and destructive.
Q: What is the dumbest thing you’ve ever
done?
A: Take the 13-mile hike down Pikes Peak at a full sprint ... I was in bed for three days.
Q: What’s something people don’t know about you?
A: I built my first home, doing most of the work myself. Started my last semester of college and finished it in just under a year.
Q: What’s the best and worst piece of advice you’ve ever received?
A: Best: Don’t leave for tomorrow what can be done today. Worst: Passion doesn’t pay the bills. Find a good paying job/career and stick to it. You can do what you love after work.
Q: What song is your guilty pleasure?
A: “Clear View” by Chris Howland (No idea why ...)
Q: What is your claim to fame?
A: I am almost always the youngest at everything I do.
