The Taylor Ducks girls’ varsity basketball team struggled in a 57-17 loss to the Westlake Chaparrals on Wednesday, Dec.
4, marking their season low in points. The Ducks shot just 17% from the field in the game.
This matchup was expected to be challenging for Taylor, as the Chaparrals entered ranked No. 54 in Texas, according to MaxPreps. Westlake’s defense stifled the Ducks early, holding them scoreless in the first quarter while building a commanding 27-0 lead. Taylor finally broke through with a fast-break layup by freshman guard Samantha Schroeder, and the Ducks added a few more baskets to make it 34-6 by the third quarter.
The Ducks showed resilience in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 points in their most productive period of the game. Senior guard Sophia Fisher and junior guard Aubrianna Alderete led the effort, combining for 11 of the team’s overall points.
Taylor drops to 3-9 on the season and will look to bounce back on the road against McCallum on Friday, Dec. 6, before hosting Ellison on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
