The 2024 Dr. James Lee Dickey Day Health Fair hosted 15 presenters providing health screenings and activities for the community on Nov. 9, on the weekend of Dr. Dickey’s birthday.
Dickey Museum Grants Manager Laurie Born said this year’s event was “a day for the record books,” providing community members with everything from blood pressure and A1-C screenings to a Zumba class. Born said Baylor Scott & White participated in the event for the first time this year, as well as Lone Star Circle of Care, Samsung and Dell Children’s Health, who were event sponsors.
“This is the only community- wide health fair in Taylor,” Born said. “It’s such a great tribute to Dr. Dickey’s legacy and to improve well-being in Taylor’s health equity zone.”
The entertainment at this year’s event was performing artist Elizabeth Kahura, who provided an interactive African Safari-themed CommUnity Power program. The African Safari program was funded in part by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts.
“We were so impressed with Elizabeth’s performance that we are booking her for the annual Black History Month Gala on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025.”
Born said next year’s Dr. Dickey Day Health Fair will be held on Nov. 8, 2025.
