Ducks face tough matchup versus Knights

The Taylor Ducks boys varsity basketball team will face the McCallum Knights on Friday, Dec.

6. The last time the two teams met was last season, when the Knights defeated Taylor 73-51.

The Ducks enter the matchup at a disadvantage, having played only two games this season.

They defeated Smithville 71-33 but lost to La Grange 57-47. McCallum, meanwhile, has already played 10 games and holds an impressive 7-3 record.

The Ducks will aim to bounce back after a tough offensive outing against La Grange, shooting just 40% from the field and committing 16 turnovers. Senior guard T.J. Whybrew and senior forward Eli Laurence lead the Taylor offense.

Whybrew is averaging 12.5 points per game, while Laurence has contributed 10 points per game.

Defensively, the Ducks face a formidable challenge in stopping a Knights team that is coming off its best performance of the season, scoring 88 points in a win against Manor New Tech.

Whybrew and junior guard Braylon Rivers will play key roles in containing McCallum’s talented guards. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6:15 p.m. at the Taylor High School Gym.
