The Thrall Tigers boys' varsity basketball team earned its first win of the season, defeating the Travis Rebels 41-39 on Monday, Nov. 25. The Tigers improved to 1-2 overall, while the Rebels dropped to 0-2.
Thrall started slowly as the Rebels built a 17-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Tigers chipped away at the deficit with a 9-6 run in the second quarter, narrowing the gap to 23-18 at halftime. Strong defense kept Thrall within striking distance, entering the fourth quarter down 31-27. The Tigers' offense finally found its rhythm in the final frame, outscoring the Rebels 14-8 to secure a narrow victory.
Defensively, the Tigers showed significant improvement after allowing more than 70 points in each of their first two games.
However, the offense remains a concern, as early- season struggles continue. The team hopes this win will provide momentum moving forward.
Thrall will aim to build on its success when it hosts Hearne on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m.
