Hutto senior guard Cylin Tate led the Hippos to a 61-57 road win over the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs on Friday, Nov. 20. Tate shot 11-of-13 from the field and scored a season- high 25 points.
The game was close early, with both teams trading scores to make it 7-7 midway through the first quarter. A three-pointer by Tate sparked an 11-4 run, giving Hutto an 18-11 lead heading into the second quarter. The Hippos built a 25-14 lead midway through the second, with Tate contributing seven points during the stretch. Copperas Cove responded with a 12-6 run to close the half, cutting Hutto’s lead to 32-26.
Hippos junior forward Ronald Willis played a pivotal role in the third quarter, scoring 10 of his 15 points to help Hutto extend its lead. Willis also grabbed eight rebounds as the Hippos entered the final quarter ahead 46-36. Copperas Cove made a late push, but Hutto held on to secure the victory and improve to 2-3 on the season.
Other notable performances for the Hippos included senior guard Jacob Bell, who finished with 12 points, and junior guard Malachi Hilby, who tied for the team lead with three steals.
