The Hutto Hippos girls varsity basketball team defeated the Burnet Bulldogs 47-43 on Friday, Nov. 15, and the McNeil Mavericks 37-29 on Tuesday, Nov.
19, in their first district matchup of the season.
The Hippos improved to 6-4 overall.
Hutto at Burnet
The game began as a defensive struggle, with both teams tied at 4-4 midway through the first quarter. Senior point guard Keyanna Carroll broke the stalemate with a three-pointer, giving the Hippos an 11-6 lead.
The Bulldogs quickly responded with a 6-0 run to take a 12-11 lead.
Hutto regained the lead in the second quarter, 21-20, but Burnet closed the third quarter on a 10-6 run, going up 31-26. The Hippos maintained their defensive intensity, accounting for 15 total steals while chipping away at the deficit. They ended the game on a 21-12 run to secure the win. Hutto also outrebounded Burnet 44-38.
Hutto at McNeil
The Hippos continued their defensive dominance in a hardfought victory over the Mavericks. While Hutto’s offense struggled to produce, the team forced multiple steals and controlled the tempo throughout the game. With the win, the Hippos opened district play at 1-0.
The Hutto girls will return to action on Friday, Nov. 22, against Jordan at 8 p.m., before traveling to Cedar Ridge on Tuesday, Nov. 26, for a 1 p.m. tipoff in their second district matchup.
