The Thrall Tigerettes basketball team defeated the Llano Yellowjackets 40-36 in an overtime thriller.
The Tigerettes improved to 2-2 on the season.
Thrall built a 9-5 lead early in the first quarter, but the Yellowjackets responded with an 8-0 run to take a 13-11 lead heading into the second quarter. The Tigerettes tied the game at 13-13 with a jump shot from junior power forward Cynthia Flournoy-Walker, but Llano quickly regained the lead, 15-13. Thrall entered the second half trailing 20-18.
Llano extended its lead in the third quarter, going into the final period up 31-26. Thrall mounted a pivotal 5-0 run midway through the fourth quarter, tying the game at 31-31 with three minutes remaining. The Yellowjackets briefly regained the lead with a three-pointer, but Flournoy-Walker responded with a clutch three-pointer to tie the game at 34-34 and send it into overtime.
In the extra period, Thrall proved to be the more resilient team, finishing on a 6-2 run.
Flournoy-Walker and junior guard Kinley Hoffman each made critical layups to secure the victory.
The Tigerettes will look to build on this nail-biting win when they travel to La Grange on Friday, Nov. 22.
Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
