The Taylor Ducks girls varsity basketball team fell 49-43 to the Little River Academy Bumblebees on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The Ducks couldn’t overcome their shooting woes and turnovers, finishing at 35% from the field, turning the ball over 23 times.
Taylor senior shooting guard Zakaya Frederick was the leading scorer, going 8-for-13 for 13 points, but her outstanding performance was not enough to propel the Ducks to victory.
Sophomore forward Tianna Candee was second in scoring with 10 points on 2-for-5 shooting.
The offensive struggles in this game follow an early season trend, as Taylor is currently shooting 32% from the field and averaging just 36.6 points per game. Turnovers have also been an issue for the Ducks, averaging 27.8 per game. Taylor will have plenty of time to address these mistakes as district play does not begin until Jan. 3.
The Ducks’ next matchup is at home against Rouse on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. They will then travel to Davenport on Monday, Nov. 25, for an 11:30 a.m. tipoff.
