DOWNTOWN MASTER PLAN UPDATE
The city of Taylor will host the second stakeholder diaglogue event for the Downtown Master Plan update on Monday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, located at 111 W. Rio Grand St., according to a news release.
The event will begin with a 30-minute presentation, followed by an interactive open house, designed for attendees to provide input, participate in activities and ask questions of city staff and the consultant team.
The city is working on updating the 2015 Downtown Master Plan to establish a vision for the future of downtown and will build off of the previous plan “to create a robust, implementable plan that meets the needs of the downtown as the city continues to grow,” according to the news release.
“To build a successful new plan, we must understand the community’s priorities and concerns through a robust and inclusive community engagement process,” read the news release.
Jan Harris, the city’s Main Street Manager and Historic Preservation officer, said 42.8% of Taylor’s population identifies as either Hispanic or Latino, and information at the event will be discussed in Spanish as well.
“It is important to offer the information we will be discussing in Spanish as well as having bilingual staff available to translate for any attendee who is more comfortable conversing in Spanish,” Harris said.
The city aims to have three stakeholder dialogue events regarding the Downtown Master Plan update to help shape the future vision of downtown Taylor.
Those unable to attend the event will have access to the presentation and open house materials on the city’s website at taylortx.gov.
