The Hutto Hippos girls’ varsity basketball team started the season 0-2 after losing to the Pflugerville Panthers 64-54 on Friday, Nov.
1, before falling to the Harker Heights Knights 66-51 on Tuesday, Nov.

Hutto fought hard in the first quarter against the Panthers, keeping it close as senior point guard Keyanna Carroll and junior small forward Taylor Hicks each recorded a steal. Senior point guard Emerie Garay tied the game at 10-10 in the first quarter with a fast-break layup.
Pflugerville then went on a 5-0 run to make it 15-10, but the Hippos closed out the quarter with a 3-pointer from Hicks, tightening the score to 15-13.
The second quarter was where the Panthers went on a run, building a 34-21 lead. Hutto mounted a comeback in the third quarter, with a 3-pointer from sophomore small forward Kemya Autry making it 46-44. However, Pflugerville pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure a double-digit victory. The Hippos shot 40% from the field and 33% from 3-point range. Hutto is finishing up a tournament at Rouse High School on Nov. 7-8 and will return to action on the road against the Lake Travis Cavaliers on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Lake Travis High School.
