The Taylor Ducks varsity football team will host the Travis Rebels on Friday, Nov. 8. This game will decide second place in the district, as both teams have 4-1 records.
The Ducks are coming off a tough 46-14 loss to the LBJ Austin Cougars, while Travis defeated Northeast Early College 65-0.
Defensively, Taylor will look to bounce back after allowing the most points all year to LBJ.
This will be difficult against a Rebels offense that has scored 38.2 points per game. Senior defensive tackle Kaddy Maravilla and senior linebacker Stephen Rogers lead the Ducks.
Offensively, Taylor is also looking to improve from the last game. The Ducks have been great on that side of the ball, averaging 36.1 points per game. Senior quarterback Eli Laurence has made massive strides since the start of the season. He was a tight end in 2023 and had not been a signal caller since middle school.
Laurence had his best game versus Eastside Early College throwing for four touchdowns, as the Ducks will hope to get that same production in this one.
It will not be easy as Travis has shut out five of its nine opponents this season. Senior safety David Owens and senior defensive tackle Anthony Powell have led the way for the Rebels. Some other players to watch for Travis are senior quarterback Jordan Davis and sophomore running back Rodney Mitchell.
Other notable players for Taylor are senior running back Andrias Fisher and senior wide receiver Jamarcus Seawood. Fisher has been the leading rusher for the Ducks and Seawood has been Laurence’s top target.
Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
