Welfare Workers Club community center receives historical marker

The Texas Historical Commission installed a historical marker at the Dickey-Givens Community Center and dedicated it to Taylor’s Welfare Workers Club on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Founded in 1935, the club is the oldest African American female club in Williamson County. Under club President Magnolia Dickey, the club established the community center in 1940 to improve civic life for African Americans in Taylor.
