HIGH-STAKES SHOWDOWN: Hippos vs. Vipers

The Hutto Hippos varsity football team will hit the road to face the Vandegrift Vipers on Friday, Oct. 25, in a challenging district matchup. The Vipers currently hold the top spot in the district.

Hutto boasts a high-powered offense, averaging 40.3 points per game. Junior quarterback Kaden Stefek has been at the forefront, throwing for 1,380 yards and 20 touchdowns this season. Stefek did not play in last week’s game against Stony Point for undisclosed reasons,

a situation worth monitoring as kickoff approaches.

Vandegrift also features a potent offense, averaging 40.1 points per game. Junior quarterback Miles Teodecki has led the charge with 1,075 passing yards and 18 touchdowns. The game will showcase two of the district’s top quarterbacks, with both teams excelling through the air.

Playmakers will be in abundance on both sides. Hutto’s offense is fueled by sophomore wide receiver Jaiden Fields and junior running back Keilan Chavies. Fields has been Stefek’s top target, amassing 600 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, while Chavies leads the Hippos’ ground game with 756 rushing yards and six scores.

For Vandegrift, senior wide receiver George Farley and senior running back Brendan Fournier have been key contributors. Farley has recorded 421 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, while Fournier has rushed for 342 yards and five scores.

The primary difference between the two teams lies in their defensive performances. Hutto has struggled, allowing 29 points per game, while Vandegrift’s defense has been stout, surrendering just 14 points per game.

However, the Hippos showed improvement last week, limiting Stony Point to 21 points. Key players for Hutto’s defense include junior safety Chris Sorto and junior linebacker Brayden Daniel, who have combined for 121 tackles this season.

The Vipers’ defense is anchored by senior middle linebacker Adam Scott.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Ed W. Monroe Memorial Stadium.
