The Hutto Hippos varsity volleyball team defeated the Cedar Ridge Raiders 3-2 on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The Hippos improved their record to 20-18 overall and 8-5 in district play, while the Raiders fell to 21-19 overall and 4-8 in district.
The match went the distance, taking five sets for Hutto to put away Cedar Ridge. The Hippos lost the first set 25-21 but quickly battled back with a 25-23 win. The teams traded sets, as the Raiders won 25-22 before Hutto took a 25-23 victory to force a fifth set. The Hippos dominated the final set, winning 15-8 to close out the hard-fought match.
Top performers for Hutto included senior setter/hitter Isabella Orton, senior middle hitter Delijah Bedford and freshman Ellie Witcher. Cedar Ridge senior outside hitter Faith Reynolds recorded 17 kills and three aces.
Hutto will look to finish the season strong, with three games remaining on the schedule. The Hippos host Stony Point on Friday, Oct. 18, before taking on Manor at home on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Both matches are set for 6:30 p.m.
